We were at the put in @ dawn and started catching fish almost immediately. Small, more natural colored, soft hackles got bit lots more than my huge yellow/brown double bunny ( I had big brown fever much of the day and threw huge offerings). The later it got in the day saw more hatches, including Sulphurs, gray and black midges, as well as a few Blue Winged Olives. We landed some beautiful wild browns as well as a spattering of rainbows. I don’t know if i’ll ever have a bad time on a drift boat, especially with someone at the oars as skilled as Dave. We diced through some runs I think Kayakers would’ve had trouble…

After we arrived at the take out, we had laughed and fished too long and the water levels had dropped, allowing for some interesting trailering manuvers.

(Thankfully Dave had a helluva winch strap on the trailer that was long enough to drag the boat up into the parking lot). If you haven’t checked out Hog Island boatworks, these things are vicious…and if you havent read Southern Culture on the Fly’s E-zine- check it out; terrific photos and stories for the fly addicted.
